OUR NEW ZEALAND HOME

by Mark Pacey

Hot off the press and hot off the heels of The Lost Wrecks of Wairarapa, Mark Pacey’s Our New Zealand Home looks back at the Marines who camped in Masterton during WWII.

In 1943, Masterton and the wider district played host to United States Marines as they regrouped between campaigns. Historian and author Pacey tells the Story Of these young men.

Former Lieutenant Colonel of the US Marine Corps, Edward Nevgloski, says in his foreword to Our New Home.

“Mark Pacey, has not only delivered a well-researched well-written history of the U.S. Marines in Wairarapa … he has

produced the first account of its kind.

From the jungle training in the Tararua Range to war-time romances, from tent camps in Solway to drinking in Carterton “no single stone [has gone]

unturned Pacey’s efforts “to breathe life into the 2,000 young Americans who came to our place one year for a bit of R&R".
